Two years in the waiting…
Two years felt like such a long time. Just prior to the Covid pandemic, we had our regular monthly Seniors 60 + event scheduled. For those who may not know, The Dream Center runs a wonderful 60 + program. These events are a source of happiness for some of our most vulnerable community members and having to “pause” it was heartbreaking. Skip forward to May 2022 and our seniors programming is back up and running.
Bingo was the first event of our resumed schedule and there was a great buzz of lively conversation in the room. Hamilton seniors, actually all seniors, were deeply impacted by the isolation and loneliness of the pandemic, so we are so happy to be able to offer this vital program.
Each month, on a Tuesday, after the food pantry closes for the day, we offer a fun afternoon with either bingo, card games, board games, refreshments as well as good company. In the future we hope to offer painting classes again.
It is vital that we connect our vulnerable citizens, even if it is only once a month. Our seniors including our parents and grandparents have poured their lives into ours for so long and the Dream Center wants to be able to give back.
If you would like to support our seniors programming, you may make a tax receipt eligible donation either online or by cheque to the Hamilton Dream Center designated to our seniors program. This gift will enable us to purchase food and prizes for our events as well as offer quality programs designed to engage our seniors in our community.
