In March of 2024, we set out to feed people “hot take away meals”. This is a complete meal with a bun, protein, fruit, water and a home baked cookie that they can take away with them on their way home, to work, to the park or sit right on our steps and eat. These meals are for anyone that finds themselves in need of a hand up. This program is designed to help anyone and everyone. It is a no barriers program that doesn’t require them to prove their need is great enough to warrant help. Each month that we have served these meals we have seen the numbers climb and we believe it will continue. We estimate in the coming months we will quickly find ourselves feeding over 100 people on Wednesday evenings. The food is prepared and handed out on the front steps of Core Church, located directly across the road from us on Main Street East. There are a few members on the volunteer team who go to the local encampments at the end of the night to distribute meals to anyone in need.
We are in the process of having the kitchen renovated to meet the Hamilton Certified Kitchen requirements so we can continue this program safely. We are looking for donations to this project. The labour has been donated for almost all of the project. We estimate the total cost to be $6000.00 and we are 1/3 of the way there. Please help us meet this goal and continue to meet a need in our city.
